Here is my brief 10 point plan to address the growing debate on recreational drug use within Australia. I believe it's time for a new discussion to take place. I don't have the answers, just some thoughts and ideas that maybe are worth exploring.
I do not advocate recreational drug use, however, I'm also not blind to the reality of what is happening in our communities and who is controlling the manufacture, importation and distribution of recreational drugs to our citizens, especially our beautiful young people.
Maybe it's time to rethink this whole issue from a totally different angle.
So here are my thoughts:
Let's take this industry (yes it is an industry, illegal as it is at present) out of the hands of scumbag criminal groups who have no duty of care. Let's support our community, especially our young people instead of trying to lecture them into submission. Let's remove the need to go underground into the criminal world to experiment and use.
Recreational drugs are not going to go away, so maybe it's time to rethink this whole scenario. If our people want to experiment with recreational drugs, let them, but let them do it in a safer context (I don't believe pill testing goes far enough), with our total support and in a way that minimises ALL the risks.
